Princeton, NJ – August 16, 2025 – The Greek-American community mourns the passing of Kassiani “Kay” Golfinopoulos, who departed peacefully in her home in Princeton at the age of 92.
Born June 9, 1933, in Dhuvjan, (today part of Albania), Kay was the youngest of three children to John and Afroditi Kyriakos. Like many families of Epirus, her early life was shaped by immigration. Her father left for America in search of better opportunities, and in her early teens Kay reunited with her family in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she completed her education at Becker Junior College.
Her life changed forever when she met Stamatis Golfinopoulos, a recent arrival from Greece. They married in Boston on May 6, 1955, in a ceremony officiated by the future Archbishop Iakovos. The couple shared 52 devoted years together until Stamatis’s passing in 2007.
Kay and Stamatis built their life in Princeton, New Jersey, where she raised her family and later found her greatest joy in her grandchildren. Summers spent at their home on Long Beach Island were filled with warmth, hospitality, and unforgettable memories with friends and loved ones. She also cherished trips to Greece, which renewed her ties to her homeland and deepened lifelong friendships.
Faith and community defined her life. A devoted member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Trenton for 70 years, Kay was honored as a Grand Benefactor during the parish’s centennial. She was also active in the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope, both of which recognized her lifelong philanthropy and service.
Kay was also a dear friend of Paul Kotrotsios, Founder and Chairman of the Hellenic News of America. Both shared roots in Epirus, and their friendship reflected her deep commitment to Greek heritage and her unwavering belief in strengthening the voice of Hellenism in America.
Above all, Kay was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is remembered for her unconditional love, patience, and guidance, values that will remain her lasting legacy.
She is survived by her son Ted (Eva) of Skillman, NJ, and daughter Maria (Jordan) of Rockleigh, NJ; her grandchildren Kassiani and Stamatis Golfinopoulos, and Nicoletta, Adrianna, and Alexandra Yuelys; her nephew Nontas Konstantakis (Eva); and her nieces Maria Kozyri and Yiota Anninos. She was predeceased by her siblings Eleni and Chris.
