NEW YORK, NY — The heart of the Greek-American community was alive and strong in New York City on Saturday, May 2, as families, friends, organizations, and supporters gathered for the 31st Annual Niki Sideris Walk & Spring Festival hosted by the Greek Division of Ronald McDonald House New York.
Held at Ronald McDonald House New York on East 73rd Street in Manhattan, the annual event once again brought together the Omogenia in a beautiful expression of compassion, unity, faith, and philanthropy, all for the benefit of children and families facing pediatric cancer and other serious illnesses.
Founded by the late Niki Sideris, whose vision and love for helping others continue to inspire the community decades later, the walk has become one of the most meaningful philanthropic traditions within Greek America. For years, the Greek Division has helped provide comfort, care, and housing to families from Greece, Cyprus, the Greek-American community, and beyond who travel to New York seeking critical medical treatment for their children.
From the moment the event began, there was an overwhelming feeling of togetherness. Greek music filled the air, dance groups proudly performed in traditional costumes, children laughed and played, and people of all generations stood side by side for a cause greater than themselves.
This year’s Chairwoman, Greek-American singer and television personality Kalomira, brought warmth and heartfelt energy to the day.
“It was such an honor to serve as Chairwoman this year and be part of something so meaningful with Ronald McDonald House Charities,” Kalomira shared. “For over 45 years, this community has supported more than 10,000 children and their families, raising over $17 million, not only through financial support, but through love, compassion, and true connection.”
She also shared a touching message to the families supported by Ronald McDonald House New York:
“To all the families and children that Ronald McDonald House supports, please know you have all of us with you. We love you, we support you, and we are standing beside you every step of the way.”
Special recognition was extended to Chairman Spiros Maliagros, Lucretia Gilbert, President & CEO of Ronald McDonald House New York, Maria Pardalis, the Greek Division Committee, volunteers, benefactors, sponsors, and every person who helped make the day possible.
What makes this event so special is not only the fundraising aspect, but the spirit behind it. It is a reminder that when the Greek-American community comes together with purpose and heart, extraordinary things happen. It reflects the values so deeply rooted in our culture, filotimo, compassion, family, and standing beside one another during life’s most difficult moments.
The 31st Annual Niki Sideris Walk & Spring Festival was not simply an event. It was a living reflection of the power of community and the enduring strength of the Omogenia.
