The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Centre for the Greek Language organize the 2nd World Olympiad of Modern Greek Language under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. The event is sponsored by the “Charitable Foundation of Ivan Savvidi”.
Participants are people aged 18-25, born outside Greece or Cyprus, and living permanently abroad. Young people who have attended school within a Greek-speaking education system in Greece or Cyprus for more than 1 year and those who participated in the 1st World Olympiad of Modern Greek Language in 2016 are excluded from participation.
The 1st stage of the 2nd World Olympiad will be held in 21 examination centres, certified by the Centre for the Greek Language, in different countries all over the world.
At that stage, participants are required to take a Greek language exam of advanced level. The examination will take place at Saint Demetrios Greek-American School (3003 30th Dr, Astoria) on January 10th (afternoon), 2018, under the supervision of the Centre for the Greek Language and in cooperation with the Education Office of the Consulate General of Greece in New York.
On February 9th , 2018, established as the International Greek Language Day, a press conference will be held where the results of the 1st stage and the names of the 21 top scorers (one per examination centre) will be announced. The 2nd stage will be held in Greece at the Kalandra University camping in Chalkidiki. There, under the supervision of the Aristotle University, the 21 participants will have the opportunity to attend courses in Modern Greek language and culture, to participate in educational visits to places of cultural and archaeological interest and to enjoy the beautiful Chalkidiki surroundings for a whole week.
A Greek language examination of advanced level will be conducted on June 28th 2018, at the School of Modern Greek Language, under the supervision of the Centre for the Greek Language, in order to select three winners.

2η Παγκόσμια Ολυμπιάδα Νεοελληνικής Γλώσσας 2018
Το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης και το Κέντρο Ελληνικής Γλώσσας, υπό την αιγίδα του Υπουργείου Παιδείας, Έρευνας και Θρησκευμάτων και με τη χορηγία του Φιλανθρωπικού Ιδρύματος «Ιβάν Σαββίδη», διοργανώνουν τη 2η Παγκόσμια Ολυμπιάδα Νεοελληνικής Γλώσσας.
Συμμετέχουν άτομα ηλικίας 18 – 25 ετών γεννημένα εκτός Ελλάδας και Κύπρου, μόνιμοι κάτοικοι εξωτερικού. Εξαιρούνται νέοι και νέες που έχουν φοιτήσει σε ελληνόφωνο εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα στην Ελλάδα ή την Κύπρο για περισσότερο από 1 έτος και όσοι/ες συμμετείχαν στην 1η Παγκόσμια Ολυμπιάδα Νεοελληνικής Γλώσσας του 2016.
Το 1ο στάδιο της 2ης Παγκόσμιας Ολυμπιάδας θα διεξαχθεί σε 21 εξεταστικά κέντρα, πιστοποιημένα από το Κέντρο Ελληνικής Γλώσσας, σε διαφορετικές χώρες, στα οποία οι συμμετέχοντες/ουσες θα εξεταστούν σε θέματα εξετάσεων ελληνομάθειας προχωρημένου επιπέδου. Οι εξετάσεις θα πραγματοποιηθούν, υπό την επίβλεψη του Κέντρου Ελληνικής Γλώσσας και με τη συνεργασία του Γραφείου Συντονιστή Εκπαίδευσης στη Ν. Υόρκη, στο Ελληνοαμερικάνικο Σχολείο του Αγίου Δημητρίου (3003 30th Dr., Astoria) στις 10 Ιανουαρίου 2018 (απόγευμα).
Στις 9 Φεβρουαρίου 2018, Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ελληνοφωνίας, θα πραγματοποιηθεί Συνέντευξη Τύπου, όπου θα ανακοινωθούν τα 21 άτομα που θα έχουν προκριθεί κατά το 1ο στάδιο από τις συμμετέχουσες χώρες.
Το 2ο στάδιο θα διεξαχθεί στην Ελλάδα στην Πανεπιστημιακή κατασκήνωση του ΑΠΘ στην Καλάνδρα Χαλκιδικής. Εκεί οι 21 συμμετέχοντες/ουσες, με τη φροντίδα του ΑΠΘ, θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν μαθήματα νέας ελληνικής γλώσσας και πολιτισμού, να συμμετάσχουν σε εκπαιδευτικές επισκέψεις σε χώρους πολιτιστικού και αρχαιολογικού ενδιαφέροντος και να απολαύσουν για μια ολόκληρη εβδομάδα τις ομορφιές της Χαλκιδικής.
Στις 28 Ιουνίου 2018, στο Σχολείο Νέας Ελληνικής Γλώσσας του ΑΠΘ, θα πραγματοποιηθούν από το Κέντρο Ελληνικής Γλώσσας εξετάσεις ελληνομάθειας προχωρημένου επιπέδου για την ανάδειξη τριών νικητών/τριών.
