In the heart of Henderson, Nevada, every year, the city comes together to pay a heartfelt tribute to its patriots and military heroes at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony. This event is a testament to the city’s unwavering commitment to recognizing the sacrifices made by our Veterans and military personnel. This year’s Veterans Day Ceremony, was held in downtown Henderson on November 4, 2023.

The event was hosted by Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero, who delivered an outstanding speech that resonated with attendees, emphasizing the importance of remembering and honoring those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Mayor Romero also highlighted a unique distinction – that Henderson stands as the first city in Nevada with a Gold Star Memorial and a Purple Heart Monument. She expressed her belief that the city’s history of service to the country has continued throughout its existence, with a strong tradition of giving back to the community.

Mayor Romero was joined on stage by members of the Henderson City Council, along with several distinguished Veterans, including Vietnam Veterans and Purple Heart recipients, Dick Moyer, Len Yelenik, Dan Peterson, and State of Nevada Military Order of the Purple Heart Commander Andy LePeilbet. US General Troy Armstrong and Attorney Peter Palivos were also on stage.

A highlight of the ceremony was the keynote address delivered by U.S. Army Brigadier General Troy Armstrong of the Nevada National Guard. General Armstrong’s words resonated with the audience as he paid homage to all Veterans, Active-Duty personnel, and National Guard members. He acknowledged the sacrifices they have made while serving and the ongoing dedication they display every day to our country.

During the event Greek-American Attorney Peter Palivos, who has a deep commitment to the values of service, justice, and philanthropy was honored by Purple Heart Commander Andy LePeilbet. The award was the National Purple Heart Patriot Plaque, which recognized Attorney Palivos for his 30 years of “ Distinguished and Meritorious Services” to America’s Veteran Community and Military Heroes.

A nationally recognized attorney, Palivos has a legal career spanning nearly four decades. He is most known for being the lead counsel against the People’s Republic of China, seeking over one trillion dollars in damages on behalf of 32 million U.S. Small Businesses adversely impacted by COVID-19. He was also one of the lead attorneys that recently settled Nevada’s opioid lawsuits for a record $ 1.1 Billion. His work has made him a formidable force in some of the largest cases in U.S. litigation history.

Yet, it is not just his professional accomplishments that make Attorney Palivos stand out. He is a deeply devout man of faith who has personally funded dozens of philanthropic endeavors with millions of dollars. He has been recognized by Pope John Paul II for his efforts to offer assistance and support to poor people all over the world. Palivos supports over 20 philanthropic organizations, and during the pandemic, he served over 10,000 lunches to first responders and gave over 1,000 toys to poor children in Las Vegas to boost community spirit. He has also donated millions of dollars to police, fire, Veterans, and environmental causes.

Peter Palivos’ contributions extend to the global stage, earning him awards and recognition both locally and internationally. He received an award from Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsiotakis for improving Greek-American relationships, a US Congressional Recognition Award, a Nevada Governor’s Award for community contributions, a City of Las Vegas Award for community service, and the Veterans Media Group Award for his pro bono legal work on behalf of Veterans and the US Military.

In a world where actions speak louder than words, Peter Palivos exemplifies the spirit of service, dedication, and philanthropy that defines a true patriot. His contributions to the community and his unwavering support for Veterans and first responders are a testament to the values and commitment that the National Purple Hearts Board proudly honored during its Veterans Day Celebration.
