Greek retailers report higher turnover in October on annual basis

Greek retail enterprises recorded a 6.6 pct increase in turnover on an annual basis in October 2021, according to figures released by the independent statistics agency ELSTAT on Thursday.

More specifically, for the enterprises in retail trade divisions obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in October 2021 amounted to 2.8 billion euro, recording an increase of 6.6 pct in comparison with October 2020, when the respective turnover was 2.6 billion euro and a decrease of 1.5 pct in comparison with September 2021, when the respective turnover was 2.85 billion euro.

The activities that recorded the biggest increase in turnover in October 2021 compared with October 2020 were:

Retail sale of beverages in specialised stores, which increased 41.5 pct.

Retail sale of footwear and leather goods in specialised stores, increased by 37.2 pct.

The activities that recorded the biggest decrease in turnover in October 2021 compared with October 2020 were:

Retail sales of books in specialised stores, which decreased by 4.6 pct.

Other retail sale in non-specialised stores, decreased by 0.6 pct.

Turnover for all all retail sector businesses, excluding food and fuel classes, in the third quarter of 2021 was 7.9 billion euros, up 8.8 pct in comparison with the third quarter of 2020 (7.2 billion euros) and up 5 pct from the second quarter of 2021 (7.5 billion euros).

For the enterprises in retail trade divisions excluding food and fuel classes obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in October 2021 was 1.41 billion euros, increased by 8.4 pct in comparison with October 2020 (1.3 billion euros) and down 2 pct in comparison with September 2021 (1.44 billion euros).
