In the next two weeks, the problem with the issuance of personalised travel cards for the Thessaloniki Metro will have been fully resolved and the queues currently observed at the ticket offices will disappear, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras said on Friday, while addressing parliament during the budget debate. He noted that there is an unexpected problem which the French contractor is trying to solve that concerns the synchronisation of the systems.
Staikouras said that more than 600,000 journeys have been made using the new Thessaloniki metro in the 11 days since it started operating.
“The Thessaloniki Metro works well in terms of safety, travel time, attendance and population movement, already in 11 days there have been over 600,000 journeys, but yes there are problems which we are trying to solve together with the contractor companies,” Staikouras said.
