Nestled in the heart of Wharton, New Jersey, Townsquare Diner (320 NJ-15, Wharton, NJ 07885 | 973-366-7244) is more than just a place to enjoy a delicious meal, it’s a testament to Greek-American entrepreneurship, family tradition, and the enduring values of philotimo.
A Family Legacy Since 1987
Co-owned by Peter Sedereas and his father, the diner has been a beloved staple of Morris County since it first opened its doors in 1987. Peter, born and raised in the U.S., carries on the entrepreneurial legacy of his father and grandfather, who emigrated from Greece and established the diner as a family-run business.
From his early days working part-time during high school and college to his current leadership role, Peter has dedicated his career to hospitality. Although he briefly pursued a career in finance and later owned Dunkin’ Donuts franchises, he eventually returned to his roots, co-partnering with his father in the Townsquare Diner, where he found his true calling.
The Secret to Success in the Diner Business
When asked about the key to running a successful diner, Peter emphasized:
-
Consistency in food quality, service, and staff
-
Cleanliness and an inviting atmosphere
-
Treating every customer like family
“Social media has changed everything,” Peter explained. “Today, the customer wants to love what they see with their eyes. The establishment has to look inviting, and management must be welcoming to all patrons. Greeks call it philotimo, love of friends.”
A True Family Business
Peter’s wife, Diana, is also actively involved in the diner, ensuring that family values are at the core of its operations. The couple’s dedication is evident in their warm interactions with customers, their commitment to personalized service, and their comprehensive menu, which also supports catering for local agencies and businesses.
Although Peter’s three children have pursued professional careers in pharmacy, medicine, and law, he takes pride in their accomplishments, acknowledging the sacrifices of Greek immigrant parents who worked tirelessly to provide their children with the opportunity for higher education.
A Place Where Community Meets Tradition
For nearly four decades, Townsquare Diner has been a gathering place where customers are greeted with a smile, meals are prepared with care, and Greek values shine through in everyday hospitality. Peter’s passion for the business, combined with his family’s strong roots in both Greece and New Jersey, make Townsquare Diner a landmark of tradition, food, and community spirit.
