America’s federal governmental shutdown just reached the Washington Oxi Day Foundation, an organization that has enjoyed three of its honorees going on to become Nobel Peace Prize laureates and one featured by a US president at his State of the Union Address. Months ago, the Foundation scheduled its October 28th (Oxi Day) black-tie dinner and awards ceremony at the Smithsonian Institution’s Renwick Gallery, across the street from the White House. This week the Gallery notified the Foundation that it is no longer allowing formal dinners to be held at the Gallery until the government shutdown ends. As a result, the Washington Oxi Day Foundation is postponing its Awards Dinner, as well as its recognition, with the involvement of Four-Star General Andrew Poppas, of Hellenic service people from WWII (posthumously), the Vietnam War, and an active-duty military officer, as well as the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
A new date will be set and publicized as soon as the federal government reopens.
