Gregory J. Kalamaras, a devoted husband, father, son, respected professional, and proud member of the Greek-American community, passed away on May 29, 2026. He was 62 years old.
Born on November 20, 1963, Gregory, known lovingly as Greg, was the beloved husband of Evangelia “Eva” Kalamaras and the loving father of Yianni and Demetra. He was the cherished son of John Kalamaras and the late Aphrodite Kalamaras, as well as a dear son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and treasured friend.
Greg was blessed to grow up surrounded by a close and loving extended family. His Yiayia and Pappou, along with his aunts and uncles, played an important role in shaping his childhood and the man he would become. Although he was an only child, Greg understood deeply that family extended beyond blood. Throughout his life, he was grateful for the many people he considered brothers and sisters.
From an early age, Greg was shaped by the example of a hardworking family that instilled in him discipline, determination, and a strong sense of responsibility. These values became defining qualities throughout his life. His Uncle Bill helped pass on important business wisdom, while his Aunt Helen offered personal and professional encouragement with unconditional love.
As a young man, Greg lived with energy, confidence, and fearlessness. He was an outstanding athlete with a deep love for competition, whether playing basketball on the courts of St. Nicholas or competing on the football field. His passion for sports and his competitive spirit remained with him throughout his life.
Greg graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in Accounting and later earned his law degree. He was also deeply involved in the Sons of Pericles, where his leadership, dedication, and ability to connect with people led him to serve as Supreme President. Through his service, he built lifelong friendships and meaningful relationships across the country.
Professionally, Greg carried himself with vision, patience, and integrity. His entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic guided him through every endeavor. At Central Construction Management, where he found one of his greatest professional accomplishments, his partner Michael became like a chosen brother. Greg was admired for his steady presence, sound judgment, and ability to bring reason and fairness to even the most complex situations. Clients and colleagues valued not only his expertise, but also his calm demeanor, principled approach, and rare ability to make others feel heard and respected.
Those who knew Greg remember a man of remarkable character. He was grounded, humble, genuine, loyal, and deeply caring. He possessed a quiet wisdom, a sharp mind, and a generous heart. Greg had a special way of making people feel seen, valued, and important. Whether with family, friends, or colleagues, he led with kindness, empathy, and integrity, building relationships rooted in trust and belonging.
Though often one of the smartest people in the room, Greg never sought attention or recognition. He listened thoughtfully, encouraged others wholeheartedly, and led by example. His success never changed who he was at his core: a deeply human man whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
When Greg found his true love, Eva, whom he lovingly called his “bride” even in his final days, family became the center of his world. Together, Greg and Eva built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, warmth, and devotion. He embraced Demetra immediately as his daughter and later shared the joy of raising Yianni. Greg once told his cousins, with his face full of happiness, “Eva is amazing, and wait until you meet Demi. I’m one lucky guy.”
Greg loved unconditionally and understood the importance of keeping laughter and joy in the home. He shared a special bond with his brother-in-law Tony and sister-in-law Maria, with the family joke often being that it was Greg and Maria against the Xiotes. His home with Eva was always open to friends and family, a place of warmth, hospitality, and love.
Greg’s life was defined by his devotion to family, loyalty to friends, dedication to his work, and unwavering determination. His children will continue to carry forward his values, strength, and legacy.
He will forever be remembered for the remarkable man he was and for the love, wisdom, and kindness he gave so generously to all those around him.
May his memory be eternal. Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη.
