Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on Sunday in an interview with ‘Proto Thema’ that Greece has chosen to respond to the Turkish escalation with prudence, calmness, but also with determination regarding the defence of its rights, with full respect for International Law and especially International Law of the Sea.
“We shall not participate in a meaningless confrontation, nor shall we indulge in actions aiming at impessing public opinion,” Dendias said and repeated: “We are shielding our country diplomatically, through the strengthening of ties with our strategic partners. We inform our allies and partners of Turkey’s unnacceptable behavior. We now see with satisfaction that our arguments are accepted, as was also seen from the conclusions of the recent European Council, as well as from the calls of allies to the Turkish side, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Madrid. And of course we are strengthening our country’s deterrence capacity.”
In this context, he underlined that “our national security is primarily our own business and is primarily based on our own forces.”
