The 9th Tripartite Greece-Egypt-Cyprus Summit to be held on Tuesday in Athens is expected to reaffirm the strategic importance that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attaches to the network of regional cooperation schemes, which are based on common perceptions on a number of critical issues, as well as the dynamics of cooperation in a number of key energy sectors – as the bilateral cooperation memorandum between Greece and Egypt for the electrical interconnection of the two countries, a project that will pass through the demarcated Greek-Egyptian EEZ, according to government sources.

As they said, Mitsotakis, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades are expected to discuss important regional developments and issues, such as developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Cyprus issue, and the developments in Libya in the run-up to the December 24 elections in Libya.

The three leaders are also expected to adopt a Joint Declaration that will signal their common views on developments in the region and the wide range of cooperation among the three countries, especially in the field of energy and the environment.

In the presence of the three leaders, a memorandum of cooperation is expected to be signed by the competent energy ministers for the interconnection of the electricity networks of the three countries, as well as for the cooperation on diaspora issues.
