President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who is in Rome to attend David Sassoli’s funeral, referred to Sassoli’s legacy by saying that “with the deepest sorrow I bid farewell to a devoted European and friend of Greece, the president of the European Parliament David Sassoli,” in a statement of hers to Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).
“He handled problems and challenges in this difficult situation -due to the pandemic- with commitment to the significance of solidarity and common effort. He played a key role to the establishment of an effective mechanism of recovery from the pandemic, and in parallel he worked for the deepening of parliamentary democracy. His vision of a Europe that protects, shines and innovates, as he said, was his valuable legacy.”
