The first Refugee Week Greece cultural festival will be held in Athens on June 20-26, marking the World Refugee Day on June 20.
Athens Comics Library and the British organization Counterpoints Arts are organizing it to promote inclusion in communities where refugees and asylum applicants live in. This year’s theme is “Healing”, and relates to the strength refugees need to make a new start.
Events will take place in several Greek cities including on the islands of Lesvos, Crete, Rhodes and Evia, set up by NGOs and groups of the society of citizens.
Its formal opening will be held on June 21 at the Serafio Center in Athens and will include speeches, a comics exhibition, video screenings, art performances and events, a concert, and an area with projections related to virtual reality.
Support comes from the Migration & Asylum Ministry’s Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors, Athens Municipality, and the UN High Commission for Refugees.
