The President of the Hellenic Republic received earlier on Friday at the Presidential Mansion a delegation of the Committee of Occupied Communities of Cyprus.
The members of the delegation referred to the 50th anniversary from the illegal Turkish invasion and the right of the refugees to return to their homes. They also highlighted the usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories, the destruction of cultural heritage and the continued rejection of the communities’ requests to hold service in their churches.
On her part, Sakellaropoulou expressed her solidarity with the displaced people and their families, who are still suffering the tragic consequences of the Turkish invasion, pointing out that finding a fair, sustainable, functional and mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus problem is a major priority of the Greek foreign policy and stated that the creation of fait accompli on the ground, as well as any talk of “two states” will not be accepted.
The delegation of the Committee of Occupied Communities was accompanied by the ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Greece Stavros Avgoustides and his deputy, Neophytos Constantinou.
