The Environment and Energy Ministry’s leadership underlined the need to improve the efficiency of energy conservation programmes in order to achieve the ambitious energy planning goals with the funds available, at the Green Deal 2024 conference organised by the Technical Chamber of Greece.
As Deputy Minister Alexandra Sdoukou noted, the funds available from the NSRF, the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Island Decarbonisation Fund, as well as the social climate fund expected in 2026, in order to support vulnerable households and businesses amounts to 6.25 billion euros. She pointed out that in previous years, two billion was allocated for the Exikonomo programme for the replacement of less energy-efficient household appliances, water heaters and the installation of photovoltaics, etc. noting that:
“We spent a lot of money on a few beneficiaries, the resources are not inexhaustible, more efficient planning is needed. The new national plan for energy and climate envisages upgrading 400,000 homes by 2030 and widespread replacement of old heating systems in homes and businesses. A faster decarbonisation of the building sector is required”.
