The year 2025 will be an “exceptionally good” for tourism, following the records of previous years, Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said at the ITB international tourism exhibition in Berlin, which started on Tuesday. She highlighted sustainability as the most important parameter of the ministry’s strategy for the future.
“The most important thing is that Greece is a destination with a reputation, prestige and maturity. The messages from the tourism market for 2025 are very positive and optimistic, but the most important thing is that the major players in the tourism market do not see Greece as a tourist destination only for next year, but want to invest in Greece in the long term,” Kefalogianni said. She added that the tourism ministry’s strategy of not investing only in one or two good years but in how Greece can establish itself as a destination in the long term, has already paid off.
The minister also referred to the challenges of the sector, such as extending the tourist season, the promotion of new destinations and experiences in Greece and the sustainability of Greece as a tourist destination. In this, as she said, “we have the support of all partners in the tourism market” and expressed the belief that 2025, which she estimated will be an exceptionally good year, “will be another step towards our strategy for Greece as a sustainable, resilient, competitive destination that delivers the maximum for the Greek economy and Greek society.”
Kefalogianni also stressed that the planning of the Greek government “has to do precisely with how we will have sustainable tourism with balance and with the ability to support local economies and societies and the national economy, while preserving the natural and cultural wealth of the country.”
