PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Nikos Androulakis met with Archbishop Elpidophoros of America in New York on Thursday morning (local time).
Androulakis is attending the Greek Independence Day events, including a parade on 5th Avenue, and making contacts with the Greek American community abroad through Sunday.
Androulakis congratulated the archbishop for his humanitarian work and particularly for raising the need for a just resolution to the Cyprus issue with the new president of the United States. “It is a critical issue for the nation, and we must all work hard for a sustainable solution to it, with respect to the United Nations Organization’s resolutions,” the main opposition leader said, also reiterating, “We will always stand by you, because Orthodoxy was and remains a unifying pillar of the Greek diaspora.”
On his part, Elpidophoros welcomed the leader “of a historical movement, a party that played a historical role in the politics of our homeland.”
He also expressed confidence that as party leader, Androulakis will play a key role in promoting national issues. “A message possessed by all of us here in America and the diaspora everywhere is unity, which is a guarantee of a successful promotion of our national issues,” the Archbishop of America said.
