Egg Harbor Township, NJ – March 23, 2025 – The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Egg Harbor Township hosted a special event following the Divine Liturgy, celebrating Kostis Palamas, Greece’s National Poet. The tribute highlighted his lasting contributions to the Greek nation and his pivotal role in shaping the Olympic ideal.
The event was organized by Fr. George Liakopoulos, in collaboration with the church’s Board of Directors. The guest speaker was Professor Theodore Mallias, who traveled to the United States as a guest of renowned physician Dr. George Dendrinos.
Professor Mallias presented an insightful and educational lecture, complete with slides, narratives, and photographs, offering attendees a deeper understanding of the life and work of Kostis Palamas. The session highlighted his immense impact on Greek culture, national identity, and his role in advancing the Olympic movement.
This event was particularly timely as the Greek community worldwide prepares to commemorate the 204th anniversary of Greek Independence. Honoring our national heroes and spiritual leaders is crucial to preserving our historical memory and national heritage.
Professor Mallias will continue his tour across the United States, with upcoming stops in Astoria, NY, and Los Angeles, CA, where he will further explore the works of Kostis Palamas. A key element of his research is the luxury edition of a book that meticulously documents the life, works, and contributions of our National Poet, particularly regarding the Olympic ideal, as he wrote the Hymn of Olympism.
The event at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Egg Harbor, New Jersey, served as a powerful tribute to the Greek language, history, and heritage, fostering Greek-American pride and encouraging the community to engage in learning about their rich cultural legacy.
