Students from the A. Fantis School, a prominent educational institution within the Greek-American community, recently had the unique opportunity to visit the Greek Parliament. Accompanied by parents and chaperones, they were warmly welcomed by Filippos Fortomas, Chairman of the Committee for Greeks Abroad and Member of the Hellenic Parliament.
This visit was particularly significant as A. Fantis School, recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School last year, continues to strengthen ties with Greece. Fortomas, who had previously visited New York, spoke fondly of the deep connections between Greece and the Greek diaspora. Addressing the students, he conveyed a heartfelt message: “Greece will always be your home.” He also emphasized the crucial role of the Greek Orthodox Church in preserving Greek heritage.
Fr. Evagoras Constantinides, who accompanied the students, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised Fortomas for his leadership and dedication to maintaining connections with the Greek diaspora. Fortomas encouraged making such educational visits a regular tradition and took the time to thoughtfully answer students’ questions.
After the reception, the students and their chaperones enjoyed a guided tour of the Greek Parliament. They also visited the special exhibition titled “Facing Freedom! At the Hellenic Parliament, Two Centuries Later,” displayed in the historic “Eleftherios Venizelos” hall.
This enriching experience not only deepened the students’ connection to their heritage but also offered them a glimpse into the legislative heart of Greece, fostering a sense of pride and belonging.
