Hellenic Teachers Federation Brings Together Greek American Education Leaders at Milos Restaurant in New York City
NEW YORK, NY — Leaders in Greek American education, philanthropy, media, and community service gathered at the acclaimed Milos Restaurant in Hudson Yards, Manhattan, for a special summer luncheon hosted by Stella Kokolis, President of the Hellenic Teachers Federation.
The luncheon served as an opportunity for educators and community leaders to reflect on another successful academic year while discussing the future of Greek language education, cultural preservation, and collaboration among organizations dedicated to strengthening Hellenism in the United States.
Among the distinguished guests was His Grace Bishop Athenagoras, whose presence underscored the enduring partnership between the Greek Orthodox Church and Hellenic education. Also in attendance were Rev. Dr. Gregory Stamkopoulos, Director of the Department of Greek Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOARCH); Niovi Christopoulou, Esq.; Paul Kotrotsios, Founder and Chairman of the Hellenic News of America, Founder and President of Hermes Expo International, and Immediate Past President of the Hellenic American National Council (HANC); Effie Pilarinou Piper, President of the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce; Alexandra Mitsakis, Executive Director of the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce; and Dr. Despina Afentoulis, longtime journalist and host with Cosmos FM.
Joining them were approximately ten distinguished educators, school administrators, and academic leaders whose work continues to shape the next generation of Greek Americans by promoting Greek language instruction, history, culture, and heritage throughout the United States.
Throughout the afternoon, participants engaged in thoughtful discussions on the evolving needs of Greek education in America, the challenges facing community schools and educational programs, and new opportunities to strengthen partnerships among educational institutions, community organizations, and the Greek Orthodox Church.
Special recognition was given to Stella Kokolis for her decades of leadership and unwavering dedication to advancing Greek language education and supporting educators across the country. Her continued commitment has played an important role in preserving Hellenic identity and inspiring generations of students to embrace their cultural heritage.
The gathering also highlighted the vital role educators play as ambassadors of Hellenism, ensuring that the Greek language, traditions, history, and values remain vibrant within communities across the United States. Participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities and fostering greater collaboration in support of future generations.
As the academic year comes to a close, the luncheon offered a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of teachers, administrators, clergy, and community leaders whose dedication continues to strengthen Greek American education nationwide.
